Rain Spouts Save Your Foundation
Rain Spouts are very important for the longevity of your foundation. Their purpose is to collect and carry water away from your home. If it were not for these structures water would collect along your foundation, eventually eroding the soil, which can lead to serious foundation issues. Likely, water would penetrate into the foundation and create mold, puddling, and in some severe cases, flooding of the inside basement of your home. Not only that, but eroding soil would be splashed against your home, which just makes things look dirty and may be difficult to keep clean.
Rain Spouts are generally called down spouts in some regions. Generally, you will find a contractor who may have their installations on sale, but they can actually be installed by a confident do it yourself type. No matter if you do the installation yourself or hire someone, it is best to install them in order to protect the foundation of your home. These Spouts are actually comprised of just a few pieces. The gutter collects the rain water and allows it to flow into the gutter which is positioned in such a way that it routes the water into a drain. Besides the gutter and down spout, brackets are used to hold the gutter in place. Generally, the gutter is installed in a sloping fashion so that the water flows, rather than just sits in the gutter. Finally, end caps are installed on the open end of the gutter, so that water collected stays in the gutter, and follows the prescribed flow, rather than just running out the end of the gutter at will.
Rain Spouts will also require some maintenance to ensure that they are providing maximum benefit to you and your home. Being mindful of the changing seasons, you should check your gutters for debris and remove that debris so that water can freely flow through the gutters. Not doing so will cause water to over flow them and cause the very damage that you intended to avoid with their installation. Water damage easy to avoid and difficult to overcome. Installing Rain Spouts will save your foundation and give you peace of mind.
